CALL FOR WORKS DimensionElevator: immersive video environment. http://www.dandelion.org/dimensionelevator The DimensionElevator is a room with a 16x16 foot floor area, and 12 foot high walls. Four synchronized video streams are projected on the four walls, covering the entire surface with moving image. The video is projected on the walls from the outside so that occupants of the space will never block the beam or cast a shadow. Four synchronized audio tracks will playback in conjunction with the video, creating an immersive sound environment. Up to 8 people can enter the space at a time. What would you do if you had access to a space where you could fluidly change the images and color on all four walls, an immersive video environment? Find out. This is a call for works for the first run of the DimensionElevator (DE). This first public show in Seattle will happen on the 21st of July. We are creating a show to test, explore, and demonstrate the full range of the DE. We are curious about what this environment will be like. What sort of content will be successful, moving? *** /// Creating environments for the Dimension Elevator Creating a piece for the DE can be very simple. The DimensionElevator Camera (DEcam) records video in 360 degrees for all four screens at once. A performance of any kind can be recorded easily with this camera. A piece could be as simple as choosing a space in the city or the countryside to set up the DEcam for five minutes. Pieces can also be created with 3D software such as 3DStudioMax and with animation software such as AfterEffects or Flash. More traditional media such as paintings, drawings and photography can also be used to create pieces for the DE. We can help you to create your piece. *** /// Proposals If you are interested in creating a piece for the Dimension Elevator, send us an email to dimensionelevator@dandelion.org by June 20th. This is a short timeframe. Your proposal does not have to be a final version, we simply want to hear what you are thinking about. Please include the following information: Your contact information. Tentative title of piece. Length of piece if known. A description. Your best guess as to how to create the piece. Pieces must be completed by July 15th for inclusion in the show. *** /// The Show The format of the show will be as follows: Friday night will be for all of the artists. A party where everyone can meet and we will screen all of the works in the DimensionElevator. Saturday day will be an opportunity for the artists to invite anyone they would like (friends, the press) to check out their piece for free. Saturday night will be the public show. The show will be curated by Dandelion Collective and will include selected works from the contributing artists. The show will run every ten minutes. The cost will be five dollars. Note that this is not a moneymaking endeavor. It is an opportunity for artists, thinkers and experimenters to try out an intense new form of media. Unfortunatly, due to the expense of putting the show on, we will not be able to pay any of the artists who contribute work. (Or ourselves for that matter) *** /// Create! Please contact us with any questions. dimensionelevator@dandelion.org We will be setting up several days in the near future to record with the DimensionElevator Camera. These days will be an opportunity for interested artists to record things. If you are interested in recording something with the camera for a piece, helping the artists with pieces, or just interested in checking it out, let us know.
